Dancing With The
Stars Review Season
10, Week 2 ByImperial
Society of Teachers of
Dancing Fellow and
Examiner and
Championship Adjudicator
Phillip Stephens
Shannon Doherty & Mark
Ballas Jive
A good job with timing
and acting out the
choreography which was
rather complicated for
week 2. Shannon used her
legs and feet fairly
well and did stylish
arms and had a winning
smile. She relaxed and
got better as they went
along. This was a much
higher caliber
performance than I
expected from watching
the practice scenes. 18?
Len sharper legs
needed; Bruno better,
but keep weight on toes
and do sharper kicks &
flicks; Carrie Ann
Strong performance,
watch timing. 7+6+7 = 20
a tad higher than I
expected, but deserved.
Aiden Turner & Edyta
Slawinska Foxtrot
His little "tissy fit"
did nothing to endear
him to me. So far his
dancing is pretty rough
and ragged with no
finesse. He does have
solid timing and he does
almost stand up nicely.
Otherwise, it's a
stretch to call what he
does out there dancing.
(But it was nice to see
Edyta in more clothing!)
18?
Bruno noted that it
was improved, but that
Aiden got lost a time or
two; Carrie Ann thought
that was a nice job???
That was crap! Len
footwork was good; well
it was improved, Id
have to agree with Len
and Bruno on that. 7+6+6
= 19 Carrie Ann was
out of line, but the
others were pretty
accurate.
Evan Lysacek & Ana
Treybunskayak Jive
Since the show will be
seen by millions of
people, and since it
would be nice if
Ballroom Dancing made a
nice impression on them,
Evan & Ana (and the rest
of the cast, too) could
dress just a little
better in rehearsal, ya
know? Evan has nice
speed and he hits the
musical breaks well.
Quite good with timing
and made good lines. Id
say he nailed it and Id
give him a solid 24
points.
Carrie Ann Very in
control, lots of
connection; Len Some
really good jive in with
all the silly stuff;
Bruno greased
lightening tonight, but
point the feet. 8+8+8 =
24
Niecy Nash & Louis Van
Amstel Foxtrot
Niecy certainly does
have a rather strong
personality! Louis did a
good job of suiting the
choreography to the
music and Niecys
capabilities. She held
her head up and smiled
and put a lot of energy
into the dance. She also
looked fairly graceful,
but you did have to
overlook a few foot
faults to appreciate
what she did. At least
18 points.
Len musicality,
sophistication, a sassy
twist; Bruno Nicely
done. Light and frothy;
Carrie Ann Go for
bigger. 7+7+7 = 21 a
surprise!
Jake Pavelka & Chelsie
Hightower Jive
Jake is just not a very
rhythmic person. He kept
the timing and did a
fairly good job with his
hands and arms - when
standing still. He just
doesn't do so well when
he's moving his feet. No
more than 17 or 18 for
that performance.
Bruno liked it, Carrie
Ann said he was a joy to
watch. Bruno thought it
was heavy. I thought it
was not very good and
that the judges were too
"praisy". 6+7+7 = 20,
which was too high for
that mediocre
performance.
Buzz Aldrin & Ashly
Costa - Foxtrot
Nice choreography for
his age and it fit the
music nicely. He did a
reasonably good job with
it, remembering the
steps and performing
them adequately and
musically. Hopefully, he
will get a a better
score this week than for
his week 1 performance.
Carrie Ann Liked the
emotional part, but it
needs more technical
finesse; Len cant
criticize Buzz Aldrin.
Bruno his was just a
waste of words. 4 + 4 +
4 = 12. This is just
unfair to a man his age;
its as if he is being
compared to those
younger dancers.
Nicole Sherzinger &
Derek Hough Jive
Nicole and Derek are
very nicely synchronized
after such a short time
working together. This
was not typical Jive
music, but they did a
good job of mixing
typical Jive actions
with contemporary moves.
As ever, Derek did a
fantastic job with the
choreography. 25+
Len thought parts of
it were good, but told
Derek he knew that Len
wasnt a fan of certain
styles used in the
dance. Well, who cares?
Hes to judge the
performance, not his
likes/dislikes. Bruno
thought it was great,
and so did Carrie Ann.
10+8+10 = 28
Erin Andrews & Maks
Chmerkovski Foxtrot
Lovely dress and a
strong solo entrance.
She has quite strong
timing and is quite
limber. Her feet were a
bit wild at times, but
mostly fairly well
disciplined. She made
nice lines and had a
radiant smile through
the whole thing. 25 or
26.
Bruno natural; lovely
arms; Carrie Ann great
job, but lose the
tension; Len missed
the footwork. Gave good
advice about trusting
the pros. 8+7+8 = 23 a
bit low.
Pamela Anderson & Damion
Whitewood Foxtrot
Why was that boy in a
sleeveless shirt?
Foxtrot DESERVES better
than that. He seems like
a good teacher, but he
should dress the part,
too. Pamela did a very
good job of acting out
the choreography. Her
closed hold was a bit
weak, but she was still
graceful and hit all the
right notes and did a
very nice job. Id give
that at least 24 points.
Carrie Ann very
versatile; brought
Marilyn Monroe back to
live; Len elegance &
cheeky charm, but work
on posture and center;
Bruno a well executed
tribute to Monroe. 7+7+8
= 22
Chad Ochocinco & Cheryl
Burke Foxtrot
Too much of that flirty
relationship stuff after
just 4 weeks. And, after
watching this Foxtrot, I
would say they need to
work on movement,
footwork, posture, rise
and fall and just plain
old dancing and forget
all that other stuff. 15
points max from me for
that performance which
was not nearly as good
as Chad's week 1
Cha-cha.
Len nothing good to
say about that; Bruno
no musicality; Carrie
Ann got to start
letting go and get into
the moment. 6+5+5 = 16.
Kate Gosselin & Tony
Dovolani Jive
Aside from the fact that
his vest without a shirt
added nothing to the
routine, Tony was a jerk
with Kate and I would
not put up with that
type of attitude from
him. Instead of all this
"drama", he should spend
time teaching Kate how
to dance; otherwise he
may not have to quit
because they will be
voted off the show. Tony
put a lot of side by
side open work in that
routine, which Kate
wasnt really ready to
handle. She actually did
rather well with it, but
kicks and flicks were
not her strong suit. She
remembered the
choreography and did it
mostly with the music.
12
Bruno unnecessarily
cruel with his remarks;
Carrie Ann the
positive was making it
through the routine, but
nothing else nice to
say; Len Come out and
"go" for it, dont go
down without a fight.
5+5+5 = 15, which was
really a bit too high
for that performance.
(Considering age, gender
and ability, she didnt
perform any better than
Buzz)
What is with all this
drama with pros and/or
celebs quiting at the
drop of a hat? They need
to put on their "Big
People pants" and be
adults about all of
this. Of course, there
may be a "behind the
scenes" attempt by the
show's producers to
manipulate the audience
into factions supporting
this or that pro or
celeb. Who knows???
DWTS Results 3/30/10
It was a (disappointing)
surprise that Kate
Gosselin was safe and
that Chad Ochocinco was
safe and that Mark
Ballas and Shannon
Doherty got the boot.
