On Friday, August 10, 2007, Vickie Dunn, Jerry More and Phillip Stephens met in "Studio B" at The Dance Place so that Jerry could undergo an examination that would provide him with further US Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) qualifications.

Jerry had traveled to Houston from Los Angeles to take the US ISTD American Rhythm Associate examination.  He had arranged to have Vickie partner him for the dance demonstration portion of the exam, and they met up on Thursday to practice and prepare for the big day.

Promptly at 11:45am, the exam got underway with a beautiful display of Cha-cha, Rumba, Bolero, Mambo and Swing.  And, as always, it was so very refreshing to see the Bronze syllabus danced by two professionals who bring such life to each pattern.

After thanking Vickie for her assistance in the dance demonstration portion of the exam, I asked Jerry to demonstrate a few steps to the music by himself, some as Man, some as Lady, and then we moved into the technical aspect of the test.  Some time was spent on each dance, making sure that Jerry was well-versed in the various patterns and the underlying characteristics and techniques associated with each of them.

Then, seemingly only a few minutes after we started, it was 2pm, our time was up and the exam was over.  Immediately after an exam, it is impossible to tell a candidate exactly how he or she has scored on the test, but I was at least able to let Jerry know that he had passed.

Next, I'll write up my notes, fill out Jerry's results sheet and mail everything off to head office.  Soon thereafter, head office will send a certificate to Jerry along with a copy of the results sheet and he will be able to display his valuable new certificate on the wall.  Jerry did an admirable job and I'm pleased to have been able to assist him in attaining another level of the highly prized and greatly valued ISTD Professional Degree Certifications.

Note: Phillip Stephens offers training at all levels for American Smooth, American Rhythm, International Standard and International Latin.  He is also available for coaching, judging, examinations and tests.  For further information, contact Phillip via phillip@theplace2dance.com or call on 713-248-2299
