At The Dance place we teach a wide variety of dances in several styles.

Here are the basic steps of 2 popular dances.

 

The Basic Cha-Cha

 

Cha Cha Closed Basic

Man's Steps

(The couple is in "closed" dance position, lady in front of and facing the man)

Start with feet apart to side, weight on left foot

1. Place weight sideways onto RF (count 1).
2. Small step forward on LF (count 2).
3. Transfer weight back to RF (count 3).
4. Small step to side with LF (count 4).
5. Close RF to LF (count &).
6. LF to side (count 1).

7. Small step backward on RF (count 2).
8. Transfer weight forward to LF (count 3).
9. Small step to side with RF (count 4).
10. Close the LF to the RF (count &).
1. Step to side on RF and start over (count 1).

 

Woman's Steps

(The couple is in "closed" dance position, lady in front of and facing the man)

Start with feet apart to side, weight on right foot

1. Place weight sideways onto LF (count 1).
2. Small step backward on RF (count 2).
3. Transfer weight forward to LF (count 3).
4. Small step to side with RF (count 4).
5. Close the LF to the RF (count &).
6. RF to side (count 1).

7
. Small step forward on LF (count 2).
8. Transfer weight back to RF (count 3).
9. LF to side (count 4).
10. Close the RF to the LF (count &).
1. Step to side on LF and start over (count 1).

Abbreviations:
RF
Right Foot
LF Left Foot
Each number used above represents a step/weight change; the count given after each step is the "beat value" for the step, with the "4" count being split in to 2 half-beat steps counted 4&
